The Skillful Parent Group

An online DBT Skills and Process therapy group for Parents experiencing high stress and residing in the state of california

The Skillful Parent is an ongoing DBT-informed group where parents learn tools to manage big emotions, strengthen relationships, and find more balance at home.

Group Overview

Each session blends psychoeducation & support, and in each session you will learn a DBT skill from one of the four core modules-Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance, or Interpersonal Effectiveness. The second half of the group will be space to share, reflect, and connect with other parents.

Why DBT?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a well-researched approach originally developed in the 1970s to help individuals manage intense emotions and reduce harmful behaviors. It teaches tools for handling stress, coping with emotional ups and downs, and improving relationships, all of which are skills that are deeply valuable for effective parenting.

DBT gives you tools that work in the moment: when your child is upset, when things get chaotic, or during transitions. It supports you in staying calm, responding clearly instead of reacting emotionally, and maintaining grounded connection even under stress. DBT is a practical skill set for becoming a more resilient, thoughtful parent. I personally wholeheartedly use and practice these skills in my life daily.
