My Approach to Couples Therapy

In our work together, you'll get a mix of structured skill-building and space to actually be heard. I don't just point out what's going wrong-I'll teach you both real tools you can use the same week, grounded in the training below.

Maybe You Used to Be a Team

Maybe you and your partner used to feel like you were on the same side, and lately it feels like you're on opposite ones. Maybe the small disagreements have turned into the same fight, over and over, with no real resolution. Maybe you love each other and you're both exhausted, and you're not sure how to find your way back, or whether you even can right now.You don't need to have the language for what's happening between you. You just need a place to start.

  • You keep having the same argument and it never actually gets resolved

  • You feel more like roommates or coparents than partners

  • One or both of you has quietly started wondering about separation

  • You're trying to rebuild trust after a betrayal or a hard season

  • You're navigating coparenting, together or apart, and it's harder than either of you expected

  • Your relationship is already good and you want to make it stronger

How I Work With Couples in Berkeley & Albany

I bring a lot of warmth into the room, and I'm also not afraid to be direct. My clients tell me they feel a strong balance of support and structure in our work together. You will feel genuinely heard here. You will also walk out of sessions with real tools you can use that same week.

I don't believe in therapy that just circles the same pain session after session. My job is to help you feel supported, understood, and equipped to actually build something different together.

My Training And Approach

My couples work is grounded in the Gottman Method, one of the most researched approaches in the field, which gives us a clear roadmap for repairing conflict, rebuilding trust, and deepening friendship. I'm also intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which is uncommon in couples work and especially useful when emotions escalate quickly or conversations shut down before they can go anywhere.

As a certified mediator, I bring a particular skill set to conflict in the room, helping both of you feel heard while actually moving toward resolution instead of a standoff. I also have extensive experience in coparenting therapy, supporting parents, together or separated, in building a working partnership that puts their kids first. Alongside individual couples work, I facilitate groups for partners navigating relational distress, so you're never doing this completely alone.
