A clear treatment role

I welcome inquiries from family-law attorneys, custody evaluators, parenting coordinators, and therapists seeking individual treatment for an adult parent. Parents may also contact me directly.

The work focuses on the parent's own emotional regulation, coping, boundaries, and responses to difficult interactions. Court-ordered and professionally recommended referrals require review for clinical fit and compatibility with my treatment role before acceptance.

This service does not include custody evaluations, parenting-plan recommendations, reunification therapy, or joint co-parenting sessions. Therapy does not establish parental fitness or guarantee compliance with an order or a particular legal outcome.

When a referral may fit

Emotional reactivity

Anger, anxiety, overwhelm, or difficulty recovering after stressful family interactions.

Co-parenting conflict

Recurring conflict around communication and boundaries, with attention to safety, coercion, and legal restrictions.

Family transitions

Stress related to separation, divorce, changes in parenting arrangements, or a new partner's effect on co-parenting.

Uncertainty about therapy

Questions or ambivalence about a professional recommendation or court order, alongside a need for individual treatment.

Clinical approach

Structured and practical

My approach draws on intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, training in CBT and ACT, and experience with motivational interviewing. Assessment and treatment planning guide the work, with goals tailored to the individual client's clinical needs.

Sessions combine space to process difficult experiences with practical skills to use between appointments. Goals and progress are revisited as treatment develops.

My background includes teaching co-parenting and anger-management classes and providing therapy in the jail system. More about my background.

Before treatment begins

We need to clarify the reason for referral, clinical needs, relevant orders, deadlines, potential role conflicts, and any expectations for communication or documentation.

A request for an intro call, a referral, or an appointment does not establish acceptance or confirm that this service meets a court order. Questions about what an order legally requires belong with the client's attorney or the court.

Individual therapy is $250 per 50-minute session. Services are available in person in Albany and online for clients located in California. Any separately agreed professional services and fees need clarification in advance.

Confidentiality and professional communication

Court involvement can raise additional questions about confidentiality, privilege, and access to treatment information. These limits and any relevant orders need review before treatment. A referral does not create automatic access to a client's treatment information.

Requests for attendance confirmation, treatment summaries, or professional consultation are considered individually. Availability is not guaranteed. Any planned communication requires an agreed purpose and scope, identified recipients, appropriate authorization or other lawful authority, and clear fees.

A signed release does not guarantee that a requested report or opinion is appropriate or available. Requests for records or testimony require individual review under applicable law and the limits of the treatment role. Confidentiality cannot be guaranteed against every lawful disclosure.
