Saba Omidvar, licensed marriage and family therapist

A message from your coparent can change the course of your day. A disagreement about the children can leave you angry, distracted, or replaying the conversation hours later. Changes in your family may bring questions about boundaries, expectations, and where you fit.

I work individually with parents who want help navigating these situations. Together, we’ll make sense of what happens when emotions run high and practice ways to respond that better reflect your needs and parenting values.

We meet one-on-one, with the focus on your reactions, boundaries, decisions, and parenting experience. You can reach out on your own or following a recommendation from an attorney, evaluator, or another professional. A referral or court order is not required.

What we can work on

01

Anger and emotional reactivity

Recognizing when you’re becoming overwhelmed, understanding what contributes to your reactions, and practicing ways to pause, communicate, and recover after difficult interactions.

02

Difficult coparenting interactions

Working through recurring disagreements, setting boundaries, and making communication choices that fit your circumstances. We’ll focus on what you can influence while taking your safety and any legal restrictions into account.

03

Blended-family transitions

Navigating changing roles, different parenting expectations, and tensions involving a new partner or stepparent. Therapy offers space to consider your own needs alongside your responsibilities to your children.

04

Starting therapy after someone else recommended it

You may have questions about why you’re here or what therapy is supposed to accomplish. We can talk openly about those concerns and identify goals that are meaningful to you, while clarifying any outside requirements.

How we’ll work

A clear starting point

Our work begins with a structured intake and treatment-planning process. I’ll take time to understand your family situation, current concerns, relevant history, and what you hope will change. When a referral or court order is involved, we’ll also clarify what is being requested and whether my services are an appropriate fit.

From there, we’ll develop specific treatment goals and a plan for working toward them. Sessions include space to process your experiences alongside practical skills you can try between appointments. We’ll revisit the plan as we learn what is helping and where you need more support.

My approach draws on intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, training in CBT and ACT, and experience with motivational interviewing. I adapt these approaches to your needs and your readiness for change.

Experience with complex clinical situations

My background includes serving as the lead instructor for Introspective Comprehensive Coparenting classes and for anger-management classes within a large hospital system. I have also provided therapy in the jail system and worked with blended families.

These experiences inform my approach to emotionally charged situations and to working with people who may feel uncertain about therapy. I bring warmth, structure, and a willingness to address difficult concerns directly.

Common questions

Does my coparent need to participate?

No. This service is individual therapy for you. Your coparent does not need to attend for us to work on your concerns, responses, and parenting experience.

Do you accept court-ordered therapy referrals?

Yes, I consider court-ordered individual therapy referrals. Before treatment begins, I review the relevant order to determine whether I can provide the service it requires. Please mention any order or deadline when you contact me.

Will you communicate with my attorney or other professionals?

When appropriate and authorized, yes. We’ll discuss what information would be shared, with whom, and for what purpose. We’ll also review the legal limits of confidentiality so you understand how court involvement may affect treatment information.

What does therapy cost?

The fee is $250 per 45-minute session. Sessions are available in person in Albany and online for clients located in California.

Professional referrals

For referring professionals

I welcome referrals from family-law attorneys, custody evaluators, parenting coordinators, and other clinicians seeking individual treatment for an adult parent.

My work begins with clinical assessment and treatment planning. With appropriate written authorization or other lawful authority, I can provide attendance confirmation, focused treatment summaries, and scheduled professional consultations. We clarify the purpose, scope, recipients, and any associated fees before planned coordination begins.

My role is the parent’s treating therapist. This service does not include custody evaluations, parenting-plan recommendations, or opinions about which parent should have custody. Requests for records or testimony are reviewed individually, with attention to confidentiality, applicable law, and the limits of my treatment role.

Professionals are welcome to contact me at saba@sabaomidvar.com to discuss availability and referral fit. Please avoid including sensitive case details in an initial email.

Requests for records, reports, and testimony

My role is to provide psychotherapy. I do not provide custody evaluations or recommendations about custody or parenting schedules within this treatment relationship.

Requests for treatment information, reports, attorney consultations, depositions, or court testimony are reviewed individually. Any information or professional opinions I provide must remain within my competence and the scope of my treatment work. I distinguish my observations from information reported by a client or another person and explain relevant limitations.

Participation in therapy does not guarantee a favorable report, a particular opinion, or a legal outcome. Attendance and treatment progress are distinct, and any summary will reflect that distinction.

Please tell me as early as possible if you anticipate requesting a report or testimony. For planned requests, we will discuss the purpose, requested information, intended recipients, timing, and applicable fees. I may seek legal or clinical consultation to determine an appropriate response.

I protect confidential information and evaluate requests under applicable confidentiality and privilege requirements. A request or subpoena does not automatically authorize disclosure. I respond to legal process as required by law and cannot guarantee that treatment information will never be disclosed.

Charges for separately billable professional services are described in a written fee agreement, subject to applicable law. Fees do not purchase a particular opinion, and payment arrangements do not override legal obligations.
